Year of the Snake: rare deals, distressed sales to prevail in Hong Kong property

Real Estate partners Eugene Wong and Jasmine Chiu are quoted in South China Morning Post on Hong Kong’s commercial property transaction trends in the Year of the Snake.

Eugene expects non-traditional investors, such as educational and church organisations, to continue to buy property assets. “These buyers tend to hold relevant assets on a long-term basis and have probably determined that property prices in Hong Kong have corrected sufficiently,” he says.

Jasmine adds that regional investors would continue to look for distressed-buyout or receivership-sale opportunities at a low price for capital gains in the medium to long term, despite the fact that prevailing market conditions and uncertainty over interest rates are hobbling traditional investors’ investment plans.
